Brian Beckage
Early 1990's

At night--
When I'm all alone in bed
listening to the rain
blowing against my window
or the starlight caressing the moon
I think of you--
and me
and wonder why
we aren't together.

When the day's tucked away
inside of tomorrow
and sparkling visions of fantasy
fill my weary head,
I think of butterflys out over the sea
Dancing out to their sullen beds
then of you
then of me
and the way it ought to be
Friends forever
lovers to the end.

Remember, though, when it's all done
After the cards are called
and the dreamers run
That you'll always find a friend
and a lover
In the lonely heart,
of this loving man.
